Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt welcomed little Pax Thien in their home and family in March 2007. They had met the young boy in November of the previous year, when they visited the Vietnamese orphanage where he lived.

Angelina Jolie brought her star power to Baghdad Thursday on a mission as a U.N. goodwill ambassador to highlight the plight of Iraqi refugees.
The actress said there needs to be a more coherent plan as the more than 2 million internally displaced Iraqis begin to trickle back to their homes amid a recent lull in violence that had threatened to spark a civil war in the country.

Few roles in this year’s crop of great screen performances send the powerful message that Angelina Jolie has put into her portrayal of Mariane Pearl, the Cuban-French journalist whose husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, was kidnapped and then murdered by Al Qaeda in Karachi, Pakistan, in February 2002. As an Oscar winner and one of the world’s most sought-after leading women, Jolie has had her pick of many lucrative roles since her breakthrough 1999 performance in James Mangold’s Girl, Interrupted.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are reportedly planning to adopt a child orphaned by Hurricane Katrina.
The pair, who already have three adopted children, have been working tirelessly to rehouse people affected by the storm that hit the U.S. gulf coast in 2005.
Pitt has dedicated time and money to the Make it Right organization, which is rebuilding a destroyed section of New Orleans.
Star magazine claims the couple has fallen in love with a girl whose parents were killed in the Katrina devastation, and they want to add her to their expanding family.
The couple already has four children: Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, and Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 19 months.
A source tells the tabloid, “Brad met a little girl and fell completely in love. He and Angie had already decide that their next child would be a daughter. They were originally going to adopt a girl from Africa, but now Brad is sure this child is the one.”

It was a wide-open field heading into Tuesday’s Oscar nominations, so of course there were going to be some notable omissions and surprising choices. Some of them were just stunners, though. Among them:
— ANGELINA, INTERRUPTED: Angelina Jolie seemed like a lock in the best-actress category for “A Mighty Heart,” in which she gave a wrenching performance as Mariane Pearl, the widow of slain journalist Daniel Pearl. The role has earned her Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and Spirit Award nominations, and it’s probably the best work of her career. But she isn’t among the nominees for best actress at the Academy Awards, and the film itself was shut out entirely. Jolie already has a supporting-actress Oscar for 1999’s “Girl, Interrupted.”

Daniel Day-Lewis arrived a little late, but he did it in style. He was wearing a jaunty porkpie hat and a black-and-white Western shirt that looked like something swiped from Bob Dylan’s closet. The result was so un-Hollywood that George Clooney, this roundtable’s class clown, couldn’t stop ribbing his fellow best-actor hopeful. Question: “Daniel, do you remember your first professional job?” Clooney: “It was a Western, wasn’t it?” One of the delights of these annual gatherings is watching beautiful, talented, rich celebrities become just folks. James McAvoy, who stars in “Atonement,” spent the time waiting to go onstage at L.A.’s Hammer Museum talking about trying to steal some wineglasses from a recent Oscar event, only to be caught by the waiter. Just before they were announced onstage, Clooney turned to Angelina Jolie and said, “Let’s not go out!” She then pointed to two nonactors nearby and said, “Let’s send them instead.” Before long, everyone-newbies and supercelebs-bonded. Jolie and Marion Cotillard, the French star of “La Vie en Rose,” chatted about Provence. “Juno” star Ellen Page confessed that she just got her first apartment. It’s a converted brothel, and it’s haunted. “My stuff keeps vanishing,” she said. “Weird things, like makeup.” Advice to Ellen: if you do win an Oscar, hide it.
