Hollywood superstar Angelina Jolie is earning glowing reviews for her role in Clint Eastwood’s Changeling, premiered at the Cannes Film festival recently. It is believed that the film would be picking up major awards for both the direction and Jolie’s “top-notch” performance.
“Impressive as she may have been as the wife of Danny Pearl, her performance here hits home more directly,” People quoted reviewer Todd McCarthy. The Los Angeles Times has dubbed Eastwood’s direction “flawless” and the response to the movie “rapturous.”
“Based on this powerful and searing performance, it would be a good bet she will again be in the hunt for the Best Actress nomination that eluded her for A Mighty Heart last year,” wrote reviewer Pete Hammond referring to Jolie. (more…)

Established Hollywood filmmakers and stars such as Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie were competing against movies from acclaimed international directors for the top honors at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday.
Among critical favorites at the 12-day festival, which presented some solid entries though no obvious standouts, was Eastwood’s “Changeling,” starring Jolie in the true-life story of a Los Angeles woman battling corrupt police to find her missing son after authorities return the wrong boy in his place.
Other warmly received tales among the 22 in the festival’s main competition included: (more…)

For only the second time in his filmmaking career, Clint Eastwood settles on a heroine for his latest celebration of the loner who bucks the system.
Like Hilary Swank’s boxer in “Million Dollar Baby,” Angelina Jolie’s single mother, Christine Collins, takes every punch thrown at her in “Changeling,” and comes back fighting. Her combat is not in a boxing ring — where fighting is supposed to take place — but rather in a corrupt police department, psychiatric ward and the court of justice where she demands to know one thing: What happened to her son?
A true story that is as incredible as it is compelling, Eastwood’s competition entry brushes away the romantic notion of a more innocent time to reveal a Los Angeles circa 1928 awash in corruption and steeped in a culture that treats women as hysterical and unreliable beings when they challenge male wisdom. Clint Eastwood and Angelina Jolie drew warm applause at Cannes Tuesday for a wrenching drama based on a true story of a single mother in 1920s California whose son vanishes.
Eastwood, who will turn 78 next week, directed “The Exchange”, a picture that picks up the themes of children in danger and lost innocence that have marked much of his acclaimed late-career work.
The film, originally titled “Changeling”, tells the story of Christine Collins (Jolie) whose nine-year-old son Walter goes missing.
Months later police turn up with a boy they say is Walter. But Christine senses immediately he is not her son and her suspicion is quickly confirmed. (more…)

Angelina Jolie has said that she could not imagine anything worse than losing a child, when discussing her new film Changeling.
Directed by Clint Eastwood, the movie is based on the real-life story of working class single mother Christine Collins (Jolie), whose nine-year-old son Walter goes missing.
Five months later a child claiming to be the boy is returned and police are eager to bask in a public relations coup of reuniting mother and son. Christine takes the boy home, but knows in her heart he is not Walter. (more…)

Angelina Jolie has said her role as a single mother whose son goes missing in Clint Eastwood’s film Changeling let her “spend time” with her late mother.
Critics have praised the 1920s period drama, which is based on a true story.
Jolie and Eastwood are at the Cannes Film Festival, where Changeling is up for the prestigious Palme d’Or.
The actress, who is pregnant with twins, said it “was a way to kind of revisit my mother after (her) passing”.
Jolie’s mother, who died last year, was “very sweet,” she added. “But when it came to her children she was a lion.” (more…)

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s twin girls likely will be fraternal, not identical.
Jolie mentioned this to me on Thursday night at the Paramount Pictures/DreamWorks party for “Kung Fu Panda,” in which she co-voices animated characters with Dustin Hoffman and Jack Black.
The stunning actress said “there was a line” on the sonogram that indicates her daughters are not going to be perfect copies of each other.
Jolie and Pitt are here in Cannes for many reasons, starting with her two movies in competition: “Panda,” and Clint Eastwood’s “The Changeling” (the latter debuts on Tuesday night). (more…)

Angelina Jolie has two good reasons to come to Cannes next month.
And maybe three. Or four.
Her animated film, “Kung Fu Panda,” from Paramount, will be premiering at the film festival. Now it’s been announced that Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling,” a 1920s-period mystery about a missing child that stars Jolie, her “Beowulf” co-star John Malkovich, Amy Ryan and Colm Feore, will be part of the competition slate.
This lends further credence to the rumors that Brad Pitt and Angelina — and their expanding brood — will be relocating to France for the impending birth of their twins, perhaps to a spiffy castle/chateau in the South of France they may have just purchased. Buzz is it’s the most expensive home they’ve yet acquired.

ANGELINA JOLIE is making new movie THE CHANGELING as a treat for her young sons.
The actress has taken on the role as a professional killer in the Clint Eastwood movie, to satisfy adopted Maddox and Pax’s juvenile blood-lust - even though they will be far too young to watch the film in movie theatres.
She says, “In the film I am an assassin, who trains assassins. The boys are very happy about it.
“It’s fun to do action movies when you have boys.”
