The last time Angelina Jolie received an Oscar nod was for playing a mental patient in 1999’s Girl, Interrupted, for which she took home the statue for Best Supporting Actress. To give you an idea of how long ago that was, consider this: Winona Ryder — and not Jolie — was a box-office draw back then.
Now, after years of strong and sometimes overlooked performances (ahem, A Mighty Heart), Jolie is once again receiving battalions of Oscar buzz, this time for her role in Clint Eastwood’s Changeling (get your exclusive first look at the poster above).
Based on real events that transpired in 1920s Los Angeles, Changeling is the tale of a mother (Jolie) whose abducted son is seemingly returned to her by the LAPD. Turns out the boy is not her flesh and blood, however — or so she adamantly claims — and thus Mama Jolie sets out to wring the truth from a corrupt police department unwilling to listen to her.
Changeling opens in limited release Oct. 24 and expands wide on Oct. 31.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are giving again. The couple has made a $2 million donation through their Jolie-Pitt Foundation to the Global Heath Committee to create a center for AIDS and tuberculous-affected children in Ethiopia, Access Hollywood has learned.
The money will also go toward establishing a program to help treat drug-resistant tuberculosis in children and adults.
“Our goal is to transfer the success we have had in Cambodia to Ethiopia where people are needlessly dying of tuberculosis, a curable disease, and HIV/AIDS, a treatable disease,” Angelina said in a statement released to Access. Read more…

Guinness World Records have released their annual celebrity lists for 2009 with Britney Spears, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie all making it to the top of their respective categories.
Spears, who has experienced an amazing career resurgence following a couple of years personal turmoil, took out first place in the ‘Most Searched Person on the Internet’ category beating last years winner Paris Hilton.
Pitt and Jolie were awarded first place as the ‘Most Powerful Actor and Actress’ in the world toppling Tom Cruise and Jennifer Aniston who were in first place last year. Read more…

The theatrical trailer for Clint Eastwood directed Changeling, starring Angelina Jolie and John Malkovich, was released on Thursday, September 11.
The film is based on true events that transpired in Los Angeles in 1928, and tells the story of a woman whose nine year old son is kidnapped.
When he is returned to her she suspects police have given her the wrong boy, but she is sent to an insane asylum for disagreeing with the LAPD. She later discovers her real son has been murdered.
A priest, played by John Malkovich, helps Jolie take on the corrupt LAPD unit which botched her son’s rescue and attempted to cover it up, in the process exposing a city-wide corruption scandal. Read more…
