Universal craved a sequel to Angelina Jolie’s assassination tango/loom tutorial Wanted. Unfortunately for the studio, Jolie is leaving them…wanting. We’ve just heard the actress has pulled out of the planned Timur Bekmambetov-directed sequel at Universal, and the studio has pulled the plug rather than recast the film. As for Jolie, we hear she is now intent on starring in Warner Bros.’ Gravity, a space thriller to be directed by Children of Men’s Alfonso Cuarón from a script he wrote with his 28-year-old son, Jonás.
Like Wanted 2, Gravity had previously been set up at Universal, with Jolie set to star. But a few weeks ago, the studio put Gravity into turnaround, possibly because it’s such an artistically challenging project: Jolie would be alone on-screen for much of the movie, playing the sole surviving human member of a space mission, desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter. (In that way it’s reminiscent of the brilliant, little-seen Moon with Sam Rockwell. Seriously, why won’t you see it?) Now Warners has snapped it up, and it will be produced by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows producer David Heyman and Legendary Pictures.

Thousands of onlookers stopped in their tracks – and hundreds of cellphones clicked photos of Angelina Jolie – as filming of The Tourist moved into one of Paris’s busiest landmarks early Thursday.
Traffic at the iconic Gare de Lyon train station came to a halt as Jolie, dressed in her chic costume, navigated crowds, scanned the departures list and hurried to a platform. Between takes during the 90-minute shoot, the actress, 34, smiled and called “Bonjour!” to the crowd.
Afterward, Jolie proceeded to an apartment for the afternoon shoot and then had lunch with sons Maddox and Pax, just like she did with daughters Zahara and Shiloh on Tuesday.
Onlookers of the morning shoot, which involved coordinating a group of 200 extras, plus the normal rush of train passengers, were impressed by Jolie. “She was very nice to everyone, very patient,” one restaurant employee tells PEOPLE. “No fuss, and she is trés Jolie,” she adds. “Very pretty.”
Added a station employee who ignored a line of customers in her coffee bar to snap photos of the star: “She’s much more beautiful in person. I can’t believe how beautiful.”

Rachel Abramowitz at the Los Angeles Times reports Angelina Jolie’s desire to play Kay Scarpetta, the medical examiner in 17 mystery novels written by best-selling author Patricia Cornwell, may be the catalyst into getting a film franchise off the ground. While upwards of $10 million has been spent in development of such an opportunity at other studios with the likes of Demi Moore and Kristin Scott Thomas and directors Joel Schumacher and Antonia Bird involved, it’s been Jolie’s drive that has kept the prospect alive.
Word is, Jolie’s interest could spawn a movie franchise that could begin shooting as early as Fall 2011. Instead of using one of Cornwell’s novels as the source the plan is to merely use the attributes of the character as Fox 2000 has decided to jettison the books in favor of an origins story written directly for the screen.
